Agatha Christie’s Celebation Cake: Delicious (Chocolatey) Death

In September last year, Agatha Christie fans celebrated her 120th anniversary with Delicious Death, a chocolate cake recipe by Jane Asher.

Agatha Christie’s grandson, Mathew Prichard, said: “As a thank you to her fans the world over we have invited the queen of party cakes, Jane Asher, to create a recipe for Delicious Death as a novel way to mark the 120th anniversary. The recipe is inspired by a passage in one of the Miss Marple books, her 50th novel, A Murder is Announced.”

The ingredients include chocolate of course, with ground almonds. Just close your eyes and imagine the filling of rum-soaked raisins, cherries and ginger chunks…

In this article, Jane Asher explains the cake: “It has an intense, forbidding dark Belgian chocolate centre which is lifted by the unexpected sharp zing of its brandy-soaked cherry and ginger filling… the cake is decorated with flecks of pure gold, sprinklings of crystallized rose and violet petals, and swirls of ganache piping.”

The recipe sounds amazing, and I can’t wait to try it.
