Best Book Title in the World

What’s your candidate for the best book title in the world?

Mine’s William Manchester’s A World Lit Only By Fire… I can’t think of a more evocative title for a book about the Middle Ages.

OK, over to you — what’s your candidate for the best book title in the world? Send me a message on Twitter.

If you’re in the process of writing a book, chances are that you’ve spent a lot of time thinking about a great title. Relax. You’ll have plenty of time to change it before publication, and your editor will weigh in on the title too.

Write a book about your survival, and help others

You can write a book about anything at all. If you’ve overcome a challenge, people want to hear about it.

Ginger Emas wrote “Back on Top: Fearless Dating After Divorce” after spending two years on online dating services.

How to survive 87 first dates? Write the book | reports:

“she joined seven online dating sites, conquered the lingo, and went on 87 first dates in two years. Along the way, the Dunwoody resident gathered string for her book, ‘Back on Top: Fearless Dating After Divorce’ (Globe Pequot Press, $14.95), just out this month.

The book includes tips on what to wear on a first date, as well as a primer for online dating and advice for how to tell a guy you’re just not that into him. (‘Be polite and say, ‘Thank you. I had a great time, but I just don’t think we are a match.’ ‘)”

What have you done which would make a great topic for a book?

It’s not a book, it’s a vook

When publishers put their heads in the sand and refuse to see that the publishing industry is in trouble, you pray for visionaries to arrive and save the industry.

Perhaps Bradley Inman’s idea of a digital book, combined with video, and Twitter may save the industry.

Slipstream – It’s a Digital Book, and a Video, and a … – reports:

“‘We think there’s a real urgency in publishing to innovate with new kinds of content,’ he says.

Vook tries to address a big problem for book publishers as they expand onto digital formats. For all the hype and initial success of devices like the Kindle, they threaten to strip traditional books of much of their transportive appeal. Images on the jacket cover, inviting fonts and the satisfying feel of quality paper are all largely absent, replaced by humdrum pixels on a virtual page.”

Read the entire article — and start thinking about how YOUR book can make the switch to the digital age. It’s time to be where the readers are.
